The
Orlando law firm of WEAN & MALCHOW, P.A. advises condominium,
cooperative and homeowner associations, as well as members,
managers and developers. Veteran community association practitioners,
Paul L. Wean, Helena Gutierrez Malchow and James E. Olsen,
along with collections attorneys Eryn McConnell and Erin
A. Zebell and litigator Ian J. Lylen represent many individuals
and act as general corporate and litigation counsel to over
600 communities of all sizes. The firm also maintains a
thriving general commercial litigation and real estate practice.
The goal for our practice is to provide timely and quality
legal representation at a fair price. Where possible we
use the best technology to maintain an economical, effective
practice. Yet the firm remains a small and personal operation,
avoiding unnecessary frills and cost structures that force
rates up.
Despite
its small size, WEAN & MALCHOW, P.A. stays in the forefront
of developments in the law effecting Florida communities
by participating in legislative initiatives and lobbying,
and by monitoring new case law developments. Each issue
of the firm's monthly newsletter, the "Community Counsel"
contains paragraph-sized case summaries designed to give
the layperson insight into the judicial approach that shapes
evolving principles governing this dynamic area of law.
Our case law briefs have been reproduced by other publications
with our permission.
Annually,
the firm offers continuing legal education to licensed community
association managers at no charge, because we recognize
that clients are best served when all of their advisers
have the best possible knowledge available to them. Our
attorneys also are frequent speakers at events open to community
representatives.
Our
attorneys and staff recognize the unique nature of our client
base: in addition to being neighborhoods they are also businesses
run by volunteers who often are not educated in the law
relating to their corporations. We understand that controversy
is common because, unlike most business operations of similar
size, the business participants did not choose each other
and often do not share a common vision. Accordingly, we
use our rate structure to encourage clients to seek preventative
legal counseling as the most effective way to avoid problems,
and our attorneys are frequent speakers at educational programs
and frequent contributors to relevant publications.
